A registered massage therapist in BC is a health professional regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of BC, under the Health Professions Act. A RMT primarily provides manual, hands-on therapeutic treatment based off thorough assessments they have conducted. Each treatment must be guided by clinical reasoning, and within the scope of practice of RMTs in BC. Techniques such as DNM, myofascial release, joint manipulation and 'deep tissue' work are some of the modalities a RMT may utilize. The purpose of massage therapy is to help treat musculoskeletal dysfunction or injury, reduce symptoms of chronic illness, and return a patient to full activity where possible.

Amanda Piotrofski is a registered massage therapist, having graduated from the 3000hr program at the nearby Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy. Her schooling and career have provided her with experience treating a variety of patients for issues such as headache and pain management, athletic injuries, patients with chronic conditions, as well as prenatal care. The techniques she uses are determined by the needs of each patient, and may include myofascial release, trigger point techniques and neuromuscular therapy or passive release techniques. In the future, Amanda hopes to further her education formally and obtain a Bachelors of Health Science. For her ongoing education as a massage therapist however, she wants to enroll in courses for visceral therapy, and neural focused techniques. Outside of work you’re likely to find Amanda reading, or indulging in her caffeine habit at the Beanery.
